Roses are red

Here goes..

Roses are red, violets are blue…
Lily couldn’t think of anything to write on her blank piece of paper. When she had sat down on her desk, her mind had been full of ideas, but now, nothing.
Mr Hunter, her English teacher, had given them weeks for their poem project, and it was due tomorrow.
Lily had spent those weeks working out how to use her new phone (after persuading her mum for weeks on end) and regretted it. She could have been using all that time on working on a poem.
Darn it!  She thought, then tried again.
Roses are red, violets are blue…
Ding Dong!
Just at the moment a light bulb seemed to appear above Lily’s head, the door rang. Lily thought about who would possibly come to house on a quiet Sunday evening?
She ran down the stairs, two at a time, being careful about the seriously long tail of her cat, Inky – doing so, she nearly ended up in hospital. Fortunately, Lily managed to get to her front door without any serious injuries.
“Hello?” she said as she opened the door.
Standing there, was Lily’s best friend in the whole universe, Maddie. As Lily welcomed her inside, she smiled at her brightly, but wondered why she had come. Then she realised that telling Maddie to go wouldn’t be helpful for her, and keeping her would be a chance to get help for her poem project, as Maddie was good at thinking of ideas.
