The Beginning

Hello!

This is a little fan-fiction I cooked up in my (limited) spare time. If you like it, then THANK YOU! If you don’t, then please say why so I can improve it .

See ya later,

Ben

The place was as unusual as it was uninviting. That is to say, not at all – to the naked eye. It was a colourful, fun-filled restaurant for children and adults alike – until it burned to the ground.

When Amy entered through the sliding doors of the building, she was overwhelmed with lights, colours and chatter. I watched through the cameras as she stared around the room – first at the tables, then the playground, the balloons on the ceiling and finally a dark corner with a round, curtained stage and a grey plastic arm poking out. As she came towards the stage, she didn’t seem to notice the sign next to it, displaying in clear, black capitals : DO NOT TOUCH – OUT OF ORDER. She reached towards the curtains and pulled them back. She got a glimpse of a metallic, dark grey body and a black bear’s head with a sign around its neck. It said: “Lefty the Happy Bear”, in the midst of a mess of tangled wires and broken parts, before its eyes glowed red and an arm grabbed her, pulled her towards it and swung the curtains shut. No-one noticed Amy was gone. She didn’t even have time to scream.

I gasped in shock and my brown eyes widened.  I played back the footage, and determined the quickest way to the stage from my office. I ran to the small, off-limits area with my blond fringe flapping over my eyes and checked for signs of a struggle since I’d been gone. The only thing I noticed was that the arm was no longer hanging out of the stage. I braced myself, and sprang back as I pulled away the curtain – but there was nothing there apart from a huge, ragged hole in the wall. Lefty the Happy Bear was gone. At that moment, the fire alarms went off.

I’m sitting at home now, just thinking about today’s jam-packedness. Since the evacuation, everything has been a blur. Some firefighter said it was a gas leak, I think, but the one thing they recovered was a tape found in my office with my name on it. I have never seen it before – it’s one of those old VHS tapes. Luckily, I have a VHS player here at home.

I set it up, and I jump as I see Lefty’s face staring at me. I breathe out, and remind myself that it is just a recording. Lefty steps back, and I gasp as I see Amy tied up in a chair, her orange hair hanging in front of her lolling head. A voice came on in the background – the cameraman, I presume: “If you ever want to see her again, come to the wreckage at midnight. Otherwise, well – the restaurant owners won’t be the only ones suffering.” The screen goes dark and I shut down the machine. Tonight, I will go to what remains of the restaurant. Tonight, I will bring my daughter home.
